Drug Trafficking Investigation Leads To Arrest

In the winter of 2020, the Guelph Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit initiated a drug trafficking investigation into an adult male.

On March 14, at 11:18pm, based on the investigation, the Tactics and Rescue Unit initiated a traffic stop with the male, and he was subsequently arrested.

A search incident to arrest revealed:

9.87 grams of Cocaine

7 Oxycodone 30mg pills

14 Hydromorphone 4mg pills

$1,360 Canadian cash currency

1 round .223 calibre ammunition

A 44 year old Guelph male has been charged with:

Possession Of A Schedule I Substance For The Purpose Of Trafficking (Cocaine)

Possession Of A Schedule I Substance For The Purpose Of Trafficking (Oxycodone)

Possession Of A Schedule I Substance For The Purpose Of Trafficking (Hydromorphone)

He will appear in court on May 5th.

February Speeding Enforcement In Guelph

From February 1stto 29th, 2020, 484 speeding tickets were issued in the City of Guelph. Last month (January 2020) a total of 232 speeding tickets were issued.

The area with the most infractions (51) is bordered by Hanlon Parkway, Wellington Street West, Fife Road, Whitelaw Road and Paisley Road. The area with the second most infractions (40) is bordered by Edinburgh Road South, Stone Road West, Hanlon Parkway and Kortright Road West. The area with the third most infractions (38) is bordered by Woodlawn Road West, Imperial Road North, Speedvale Avenue West and Wellington Road 32. The area with the fourth most infractions (37) is bordered by Victoria Road South, York Road, Watson Parkway South and Stone Road East. The area with the fifth most infractions (36) is bordered by Victoria Road South, Stone Road East, Gordon Street and Arkell Road.

The Guelph Police Service would like to remind the public to slow down to help ensure everyone arrives to their destination safely.

Suspicious Vehicle Investigation

The Guelph Police Service is looking for public assistance with an investigation into a suspicious vehicle.

On March 9th, 2020 between 7:15pm and 7:30pm, a white crew cab style pick up truck with a white cap and a blue shield on the side of the truck was driving in the area of Fieldstone Road, Harts Lane and Bathgate Drive in the City of Guelph. This is not a criminal investigation but police are trying to identify the occupants of the vehicle.

Banks Vandalized

On March 13th, 2020, at 3:30am, two people wearing reflective vests damaged three Automated Teller Machines (ATM) inside a bank located near the intersection of Gordon Street and Kortright Road West in the City of Guelph. The screens and keypads of two ATM's were painted with red paint, and all three ATM's had cardboard glued in the card slot rendering them inoperable.

Some time over night on March 13th, a bank located in the downtown core was vandalized. There was graffiti sprayed in red paint all around the building. The locks to the building had also been tampered with, possibly with glue.

Arrested For Impaired Driving

On March 15th, 2020, at 2am, a member of the Guelph Police Service observed a vehicle driving southbound on Gordon Street in the City of Guelph.

At 2:06am, after observing the vehicle cross the centre line twice, police initiated a traffic stop near Lowes Road West and began speaking with the adult male driver. He subsequently failed a roadside Approved Screening Device breath test and was arrested.

A 20 year old Hamilton male has been charged with Operation While Impaired Blood Alcohol Concentration.

He will appear in court on March 31st.

Commercial Break In

Some time overnight on March 13th, 2020, a business located near the intersection of Gordon Street and Kortright Road West in the City of Guelph was entered. The back door of the business was broken during the entry. Approximately $3,000 in product and $100 in coin was taken.

Teen Arrested For Robbery

On March 12th, 2020, at 8pm, a teenage male was browsing jewelry with the assistance of an employee at a store located inside the Stone Road Mall in the City of Guelph. The employee was showing the male a necklace when he suddenly grabbed it and tried to rip it from the employee's hands. The employee pulled back and broke free of the male, at which point the male fled on foot.

At 8:01pm, Stone Road Mall security located the male just outside the store and the Guelph Police Service was notified. The male was subsequently arrested.

A 17 year old male from Toronto has been charged with Robbery With Intent.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing on March 13th.

Multiple Stolen Vehicles

On March 10th, 2020, at 11am an adult male parked his silver 2019 Acura RDX in a commercial parking lot located near the intersection of Victoria Road South and York Road in the City of Guelph.

On March 12th, at 12:30pm, he returned to the parking lot to find that the vehicle was gone.

On March 12th, at 6:25am, an adult female started her silver 2013 Volkswagen Passat that was parked in the driveway of her residence located near the intersection of Deerpath Drive and Imperial Road South. She then left the vehicle unlocked as she went back inside her residence.

At 6:30am, she returned back outside to find that her vehicle was gone. The vehicle contained her wallet, personal identification, $50 cash, a $450 pair of Versace sunglasses and assorted women's clothing.

Arrested For Impaired Driving

On March 12th, 2020, at 3:04pm, a member of the public notified the Guelph Police Service regarding a possible impaired male driver in a commercial parking lot located near the intersection of Woodlawn Road West and Nicklin Road in the City of Guelph.

At 3:08pm, police located the male in the parking lot and began speaking with him. Police soon formed grounds that he was impaired by drug, and he was subsequently arrested.

A 38 year old Guelph male has been charged with Impaired Operation Of A Conveyance.

He will appear in court on March 31st.

Arrested For Shoplifting Alcohol

On March 11th, 2020, at 2:12pm, an adult male shoplifted $28.95 worth of alcohol from a store located near the intersection of Scottsdale Drive and Stone Road West in the City of Guelph.

On March 12th, at 6:21am, police located the male near the downtown core and he was subsequently arrested.

A 26 year old Guelph male has been charged with:

Theft Under $5,000

Breach Probation x4

He will appear in court on April 28th.

Arrested For Stealing A Necklace

On March 12th, 2020, at 8:11am, an adult male picked up a silver necklace with several charms that was left in cleaning solution at a community space located in the downtown core of the City of Guelph. The male eventually left the building with the necklace.

At 1:03pm, police located the male at the same community space and he was subsequently arrested.

A 39 year old Guelph male has been charged with Theft Under $5,000.

He will appear in court on May 5th.

Man Arrested For Shoplifting, Resisting Arrest

On March 12th, 2020, at 6:20pm, an adult male was observed shoplifting $214.47 worth of merchandise from a store located near the intersection of Woodlawn Road West and Woolwich Street in the City of Guelph. The store's Loss Prevention Officer (LPO) stopped the male and attempted to escort him to the LPO office to wait for police, however the male resisted and grabbed the LPO with both hands. An altercation ensued and the LPO was eventually able to gain control of the male.

At 6:47pm, police were on the scene and attempted to arrest the male when he again physically resisted. Police were eventually able to gain control of the male.

A 33 year old Guelph male has been charged with:

Theft Under $5,000

Resist Arrest

He will appear in court on May 1st.
